Just a Note to Say Thanks.....

We received a letter from CSK Auto Inc. of Phoenix, AZ thanking us for our participation in their 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the A.C. Green Youth Foundation. Last year they contributed over $25,000.00 to this worthy charity. We understand the importance of supporting your community. At L.A. Xpress we are involved with many areas of community service. Because of this, we felt it was important to take a moment to say "Thank You" to CSK Auto for their wonderful support of this charity and their community.

As The Tires Turn......
By Momma Miranda

Here's a quick update on the Children of the L.A. Xpress Employees;

Paulette Smith, T/L Dept., has a new teenager in the house. Her son, Justin, turned 13 this year. Others with new "Teens" in the house are Sonia Acuña, South Gate Office Manager; her son John, Jr. is 13. René Peters, A.V.P. South Gate; her daughter Vanessa is 13. By the way, René says that Vanessa is 13 going on 30, sound familiar to any of you parents? Peg Vesprini, Director of Human Resources, South Gate; her daughter Amanda is 12 1/2, soon to be a teenager.

There are also some Graduations going on at L.A. Xpress. Kathy Reed's daughter Tara just graduated from Warren High School in Downey. Tara's plans include College in Long Beach and working at the local library. René Peters' son Nick graduated from Villa Park High School. Nick is looking forward to Orange Coast College and all the new challenges it will bring. Bob Bray's stepdaughter Joanna graduated from Temple City High School. Joanna will be attending Pasadena City College in the fall. Good Luck and Best Wishes to all of the graduates.

And on the baby front, Sonia Acuña's "baby Alex" is getting ready to start his formal education. Alex is starting kindergarten in the fall. Mom Sonia is getting all of his records ready in anticipation of the upcoming "Kinder Parents" sign up meeting. Alex is also starting T-Ball this summer. Good luck Master Alex.

How to Manage Anger

With the summer months, and the hot, smoggy conditions that they bring already upon us, we felt that a little help in the "Anger Management/Road Rage" area might come in handy. Constantly blowing your stack not only alienates others, it can also contribute to health problems. These problems include headaches, stomach upset and heart attack. To take control:

Count to 10. When something angers you, give your body time to defuse before you react. Take some deep breaths. Ask yourself: "Will this really matter a year from now?"

Walk it off. Go for a short stroll until you calm down. Find a quiet place where you can think out loud and take a second look at how you are reacting to a situation.

Distract yourself. Example: In a traffic jam, play soothing music or listen to a relaxing program. At work, dive into a task to turn negative energy positive.

Ask for help. If managing outbursts seems impossible, don't be afraid to try counseling, meditation, lifestyle changes or other kinds of ongoing psychological help.

You'll feel better, and possibly live longer, if you are better able to manage your anger.

Relax and have a Great Summer !

In the News.....

Spiraling bankruptcies are costing you and your business money. More than $50 Billion will be written off this year. This is due to the increase in personal bankruptcies. That's a $7 Billion jump from last year. The reason for this is easy credit and fewer stigmas to bankruptcy.

There are some things you can do to help protect yourself:

  1. Monitor all your customers, even your best ones, for early signs of trouble... late payments, postdated checks, broken promises and unreturned messages.

  2. Update financial records of customers on a regular basis. A review of financial information will allow you to react to situations before they become bankruptcies.

  3. Meet with the problem debtor face to face if possible. This will make it easier for you to workout a repayment plan that works for both of you.

  4. Establish reasonable credit limits and stick to them. If you make exceptions, you increase the risk of surprise bankruptcies.
